Tutorial Guides

The following guides provide tutorials for the Skeen Library and its resources.

Google Scholar from the Home Page

  1. Google scholar can be searched directly from the library's home page
  2. Enter your search query

Search Results

  1. You can sort by relevance or date, and you can filter your results by date
  2. Each Item
    • Title links to the source
    • Under title are author, date, and source
    • Partial abstract when available
  3. Links under items in list
    • Cited by: how many times the article has been cited
    • Related articles
    • Cite: allows you to export the citation
    • Save: saves to "My Library"
    • Find it at NMT: Skeen Library's Full Text Finder
    • Library Search: find it at a nearby library. If you're on campus, it redirects to Skeen Library's catalog
    • Web of Science: opens cited reference search results in Web of Science
  4. Full text link
    • The article title doesn't always link to the full text

Advanced Search

  1. Open the advanced search by clicking the down arrow at the end of the search box

Tips

  • Google Scholar cannot limit by subject or format
  • Unlike most databases, Google scholar does not have faceted searching (search limiters) and has fewer options in the advanced search
  • Google Scholar is not limited to the library's subscriptions
  • Items without full text can be requested through interlibrary loan
  • Best searches
  • Set up Google Scholar to get links to the library's subscriptions
  • When on campus, Google Scholar automatically connects to the Skeen Library
